According to a paper released by researchers of wuhan university last week, NeoCov virus resembles genetic makeup with Middle east respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS – Cov) outbreak from 2012 and 2015 and also shows similarities with the SARS – Cov -2.
However according to experts NeoCov is not a new variant of covid 19 it is actually an old virus identified in bats in 2011. It can’t infect humans as it cannot use ACE2 receptors until a new mutation occurs.
According to virologist Dr. Shahid Jameel, NeoCov binds to bat ACE2 receptors but fails to do the same with human ACE2 receptors and is unlikely to lead a new pandemic.
